Summers of 2020: Covid-19 Lockdown and its impact

This lockdown will be challenging and change the way we live our life. Many have already started feeling unnecessarily show off which we had in life and many strengthen their beliefs on maximum life minimal things. Let's have a look at what can be potential changes post lockdown will bring in our lifes.

1. WFH will be the standard norm for life in the metro. Almost all organizations will realise and adapt this post Covid-19. Over this period we will see atleast 15% staff moving to WFH and on a regular basis. This will make organizations think on their space requirement and will save cost on this front.

2. Job loss: Well we all know due to lockdown and extension will have a severe impact on the job market. Many of the front line blue collar as well labour class will feel the burnt of Covid-19. Though this is an immediate impact and we can argue this will back on track post Covid-19 but this will have permanent re-think of staff requirements. As many employers will realize their potential and will reduce the work force overall. Some of the jobs are moving out completely and some of the new jobs which were not earlier will see the way. This will have over 10 to 20% impact depending on industry.

3. Education and K12 School: Online education will be new normal and almost every school will be having a platform for online classes. Though there is no dearth of online classes and material, there will be a fight for quality as students and parents will feel lost and get distracted in the online education and their claims. We will see a new model will evolve a combination of both online and offline at campus. What is important is closely monitoring and hand holding students and guiding parents. Though metro is having higher proportions of tech enabled homes and tech skills of parents but as we go further deep into hinterland both skills and availability of resources is limited. We may have the highest penetration of mobile broadband but putting it to best use is yet to be achieved. We will have many regional players who will evolve within reach of locals and play a crucial role in K12 schools.

4. Annual Lockdown: Given the tremendous benefits of lockdown on the environment, wont be surprised if the Govt and local communities propose for annually short lockdown to help clean the environment naturally. This will be debated but won't be ruled out.

5. Structural changes in economy: This pandemic and lockdown will have impacts on everyone's life. It is going to have major fundamental structural changes as we are seeing widespread job losses and economic hardships across the range of the income and occupational distribution. Actual assessment of loss will be available once pandemic is over.

6. Creative and talent: Lockdown has shown us how talented people across the globe are getting time to explore their own interest and sharpen their skills. We will see people shift their mind set from formal jobs to explore unexplored territories.

7. Western turning to India: Given the way India is handling the current crisis and the way it is evolving, emphasis in Indian traditional culture and habits will be adapted and accepted more wider.

8. Jobs in demand: Covid-19 has triggered early evolution of new jobs or existing low demand to high demand. We will see jobs such Management of Criss, Social services, Home tutoring, Online tuition (much more in demand than earlier), video services, healthcare services

9. Telecom: We would see a turnaround of the Telecom sector as we will see penetration in mobile broadband not only in cities but in semi-rural and rural areas. Increase in number of subscribers additions. Consumption of content via OTT platforms. Online classes and many mores.
